This was a confusing trip to say the least. We're pretty big fans of state and national parks and try to stop at them when we can. I'm not exactly sure why this is a national park. State park? Sure.
It's pretty here, I will say that and there is some historical value with the canal.
We came here on Memorial Day weekend and it surprisingly wasn't too busy. We drove around for an hour, yes an hour, looking for a decent place to park. I don't mind parking and walking but we had our 2 children with us and didn't want to walk miles to get where we wanted to go. It seemed like every parking area we went to was full. We finally found a parking area with no spots and couldn't find the trail we wanted. So we got back in the car again and finally found a place to park with a trail nearby. It was near a covered bridge which was actually a replica of the original that was destroyed by a storm in the 70's.
Another thing that's strange is the private homes scattered throughout. While looking for parking there were a few we could tell were private but others we weren't sure. This made us question if we could park there so we erred on the side of caution and moved on.
The worst thing was the poor condition of the roads. I'm not talking a few potholes, I'm talking roads in need of serious repair. If you're a passenger look straight ahead or you'll be carsick.
There are allegedly falls here but we didn't see any. The lack of decent signage and parking kept us from seeing them.
All in all a disappointing trip. Not planning on coming back.
