  • Crazy loud! This is a review for the Downtown Container Park after 9pm. This is when it becomes an adults-only area. We were looking for a place to hang out and enjoy some drinks and chitchat that was away from the madness of Fremont Street. The Container Park was clean, well-lit, patrolled by security, and an easy walk from east Fremont. The lack of under 21s was refreshing. So what was the problem? The live entertainment. I appreciate live entertainment but when you're in a small area and just want to drink a beer and talk with your friends, it's hard when you have to scream. (Nothing against the band - it was just the venue that was a problem). If I want my eardrums to bleed, I'll go back to Fremont Street. We wound up just strolling through quickly and playing on the awesome playground "for kids of all ages" before leaving. It was too loud to eat or drink in comfort, plus most of the eating is outdoor. I'm glad the stores were closed. From a quick glance, it looked like a bunch of mixed media crafts made by local, well-meaning self-professed "artists" who would usually make their living on Etsy. I would have felt bad about not buying anything. I will probably go back during the day and give it another try. Fingers crossed that there isn't live (un)entertainment. I realize the Container Park was a bit controversial because it's part of the urban gentrification, residents need a grocery store not a nut tray made of an old wine bottle, blah blah blah. Well, tough. That fire hazard/vagrants' lot was abandoned for a very long time before it was finally bulldozed and turned into the Container Park. The gradual clean-up of downtown now finally extends past East Fremont. A year ago, I would not have felt safe walking past the Ruby Slipper neon sign. Thanks to the Container Park, I'm now more comfortable heading out further. To be fair, it's not so much a service as it is a destination. It requires a bit of effort to get there. I have no idea who would deliberately seek out the merchandise sold there except out of kindhearted patronization. Regardless, I hope it stays.
