| - Honest question: does BRGR even want my patronage?
Or your patronage? Or anyone's, for that matter? Seriously, what will it take for this overpriced and overhyped rehash of a burger concept to actually, I don't know, invest in some basic training on how to run a restaurant--starting with Hospitality 101? Do they actively not want to make money, or are they just that bad of a restaurant?
Three times I've been to BRGR, at three different times of day, with three different sets of people. Each time, I've been underwhelmed by the food, and truly astonished by how poor the service is. The hostesses are downright rude. The servers--and calling them that is generous--seem to resent speaking to customers or delivering food or doing anything remotely related to their jobs. The bartender was cold and condescending when we ordered beers...which we had to approach her for, since she was ignoring us. The only thing the employees of this restaurant seem to be good at is wearing inappropriately short shorts and chatting among each other as they congregate near the bar. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed trying to flag down our waitress as we attempted to order another drink...as she leaned on the bar with her back to us. I know I've been out of the industry for a few years, but I'm pretty sure that "if you have time to lean, you have time to clean" still applies.
The food is overpriced, entirely uncreative, and executed poorly. I asked for a burger medium rare...which arrived extremely rare and very greasy. My SO's medium burger was a well-done, and also very greasy. We also accidentally received someone else's (presumably greasy) burger which sat on our table, getting cold, for five minutes before we were able to get the attention of the waiter who had wordlessly placed it on our table and then wordlessly retrieved it--seriously, do the managers beat them if they smile at or speak to customers? It's also downright cheap that the burgers come with nothing--that you have to order fries, etc, on the side. I once ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer, which were soggy and bland. People rave about the adult milkshakes, which are decent enough but nothing that I haven't had at, say, Red Robin before. The fries are fine if you like salt and Costco-brand shredded Parmesan.
As if the awful service and mediocre food wasn't enough, the concept and flow of this place don't even make any sense. Each time, I have been rushed through my meal--even when the restaurant has been almost empty, as it was one early Saturday evening last week. The decor is bland, except for the too-numerous televisions, which are not generally the hallmark of a gourmet experience. To top it all off, both drinks and food are overpriced--you'll pay more here for a beer than anywhere else, and for no apparent reason, because their selection is decidedly "meh."
Bottom line: I would rather dine at the Petsmart across the street than experience the complete failure of a restaurant experience that is BRGR again.
