  • The new renovation scares the heck out of me. Who ever the architect/ design engineer was is putting too much faith into adhesives and silicon. Every single one of those 1000LB glass panels is secured with only a bead of silicon. When you sit in the food court and look around, it's an absolute accident waiting to happen. Each one of these 1000LB glass panels is literally held in place with silicon and an 8" round mount, with only silicon. There aren't any bolts, or compression brackets - just silicon adhesive. It's not a question of whether or not one or several of these glass panels will collapse, but rather a matter of when. The City of Mississauga commercial construction permit office needs to revisit this design and perform moisture and stress tests on these silicon joints. any deviation in expansion such as 1mm will have profound effect over the mid/ long term structural integrity. In addition, glass is a conduit for high frequency vibration - which is an adhesive's worst enemy. Over time the binding properties of the silicon will be compromised - this is fact. I hope I'm very wrong, but let the record show my expressed concerns.
