| - We have 2 budgies/parakeets that we got from a big chain pet store and been wanting a third bird that has been hand-fed so we are able to interact with it more. We found Bird Farm on Yelp and it seems like it may be the only shop in Vegas that has this many different species of bird and majority, if not all, hand raised. My husband and I couldn't decide if we would like a cockatiel, green cheek conure or a sun conure. I believe it was the owners of the shop who helped us that day. She was very helpful and informative of the different types of birds and ultimately helped us decided that a cockatiel would be the best fit for the 2 parakeets that we already have. The owner and the older gentleman were very friendly and allowed us to handle multiple cockatiels to help figure out which bird was best suited. The whole time they were very patient and welcoming, never minding how many birds or how long we've played with them. They never rushed us and had allowed us time to bond with the birds. I am very grateful for that as we were able to see which bird liked us the best and find the connection. The only thing I asked for was that I wanted a male because I wanted a bird who would be more vocal and even though that's difficult to tell for young mutated cockatiels, the owner, with 30 years of experience handling bird, was fairly sure that we picked out a boy. I'm 99% sure she's correct on that as our cockatiel has become quite vocal. You can tell that the owners truly cared for their birds. Not only were they knowledgeable of the different species of birds, they also know individual birds by their personalities! They were able to tell me which cockatiels were friendly and curious, and that the only conure that they had available then has trouble bonding with people.
I would suggest to come visit this shop and let the owners help you find your perfect match. And I would even suggest to come here several times if needed to be if you can't find your bird the first time. They will have new babies available over time, so don't rush into it! When I've finally picked my cockatiel, I didn't have the cage ready yet but I could put down a deposit and have the cockatiel "lay over", so that once the cage is ready, we can come and pick him up. They also sell cages, toys and bird food there and reasonable prices. They also had 2 big parrots available for adoption at that time.
We've had our cockatiel for 1.5 months now and he's bonded with us within the first day. He loves being around people and even learned to say "good boy" and "come here". Love him to bits! Highly recommend this shop!
