This was my first high-tea experience. I went with 3 friends (reservations are necessary). The tea room is off the main lobby, they have some tables outside the dining area and its easy to spot out where to go.
The dining room itself is nice but a lil old fashioned-the perfect ambience for someone over the age of 60. People were dressed well, I was glad I put one of my nicer dresses on. We were quickly seated and offered a menu. There were different tea options, I cant recall what they were exactly. We chose tea with an assortment of treats.
For the tea, you got to choose from a selection of loose leafs. What's fun is that they bring you the teas in small jars (see pic), so you can smell them first and decide on one. They give you a large tea pot, so running out is not an issue :)
The food itself was soo yummy. My favourite treat was the scones, however you should know that I have mild addiction to tea biscuits. (tip: one of my favourite tea biscuits is the rasberry white chocolate at Mt Sinai Hospital coffee shop on the main floor. If you live/work nearby, go try one!)
I was full at the end of the tasting. I wish there had been more of a lunch component mostly treats. They gave you two little sandwich slices (2' x 1') but that wasn't enough.
It was a nice experience, and I'm eager to try other high-tea services in the city to compare. My friends who have been to high-tea before told me this was the fanciest service they had. But for $50, they agreed with me a little more of a substantial lunch component would be nice.
