  • I do not recommend this company. I changed to them about 6 months ago when the local answering service I had been using for many years was sold to a national company and there was a small price increase. I contacted Cosmopolitan to try to stay local and was given a quote for a monthly fee that was slightly lower. I foolishly did not have my attorney review the contract before I signed. I was surprised when the statement for the first month exceeded the expected bill by a substantial amount. I found that unlike my previous company there were additional fees for "units" of service. Which meant that calls exceeding the number or length in the monthly fee were extra charges. That included any calls the operator "patched" to me if I was not able to write the callers number down, like when driving. In such a case the "unit" fee meter kicks in. To their credit the adjusted the fee and suggested ways to minimize charges. The second month also exceeded expectations. My old company's service began when a call to the main line rolled over to the operator and was included in the monthly fee. In order to minimize the fees with Cosmopolitan I had to install a recording on our phone that redirects urgent calls to a separate number, which means the calling party has to hang up and dial another number. Very inconvenient and confusing to many callers. I tried to discontinue service with Cosmopolitan, but was directed to a section in the contract specifying a multi year obligation, which was not clear to me in my reading of it. Too late, I contacted my attorney, who communicated with their attorney but to no avail, other than if I retire they would "consider" letting me out of the contract. I plan to change to another service when I can, and also be sure I send written notice to the company, so the "automatic renewal" clause in the contract does not take effect!
