| - The Strip cannot and will not please everybody. If you're not a gambler, tourist, "love seeker," stressed out employee/student/recent grad/professional, businessman, or simply a curious and/or adventurous individual, then you might think there's nothing here for you. I don't think that's necessarily true.
Aside from taking pictures, take advantage of the shows, especially if you're bringing kids with you. Each hotel offers tickets for a variety of shows somewhere on their property or at a sister property. If you don't know where to get tickets, ask front desk or look for ticket booths in various areas of The Strip. Watch a musical, a magic show, recording artists, Cirque du Soleil, or Fat Elvis among others (more here: https://www.vegas.com/shows/index_v1.html). The Fountains of Bellagio show is free and always a great attraction. If you want to go shopping, check out The Forum Shops, Crystals, Grand Canal, Via Bellagio, Palazzo Shoppes, and the Miracle Mile Shops. If strolling on The Strip is not enough, the Bellagio has a great botanical garden while the LINQ Hotel has a nice promenade with a giant ferris wheel.
Food: I'm disappointed when I see people choosing fast food over the fantastic sit-down restaurants or famous Vegas buffets The Strip has to offer. That's like flying all the way to Germany for Oktoberfest, but then choosing to eat a Big Mac over Rippenbraten. Even the pickiest eaters will find something they like here. Food is part of your Vegas experience.
Personally, I don't think Las Vegas is a "pathetic city" (as someone mentioned) by any definition. Sure, it isn't perfect--no city is. The flaws of Sin City are well known, but from what I've experienced, the fun everyone (including myself) had outweighs the negatives.
