| - SCY is a cute little boutique yoga studio. I was unsure I was in the right place at first because it's on a quiet street and is a converted garage nestled behind a house (which might also be converted into a studio).
I'm used to walking into yoga studios that are warm (or hot), but it was chilly at first. No big deal, since it warmed up quite nicely once we got moving.
I took a Vinyasa Flow class with Marcy. It said it was an all levels class, but I felt like a more advanced yogi would have found it too slow and easy. Of course, since I'm more of a beginner-to-intermediate, I probably don't know what I'm talking about in that regards, but Marcy did use a lot of blocks and straps in the class.
I enjoyed the class with Marcy, though she isn't the regular instructor. She was fun and upbeat and made us laugh a few times. Not the typical image you have for a yoga instructor. She seemed real. And didn't have the *yogi* voice - all breathy and calm.
The class started in shavasana, which I thought was a little odd at first, but then she came around and dropped a little almond oil in our hands to smell and rub into our temples. It was a perfect way to start the practice.
Throughout the practice, Marcy demonstrated the poses, but also came around the studio helping to correct postures. I love when instructors do that!
The practice ended the same way it began - almond oil and shavasana. It was lovely.
My only complaint with the instructor was that she wasn't 100% welcoming to new students. When I walked in, she was talking to a regular. I can't fault her too much because she did acknowledge me pretty quickly and got me checked in easily, but then went right back to her conversation. It would have been nicer if she'd given me a little more instruction on what to expect from the class, etc. Not really a big deal, and far better receptions than some other places I've been.
I took this class as part of a ClassPass membership. If you're unfamiliar with ClassPass, it's a monthly membership that allows you to take classes at a variety of boutique studios. You sign up on their website, and you're good to go. Check-in at the studio was super easy, but I wondered if Marcy's reception of me was affected by me not being a true new member of SCY.
Overall, a really quaint studio! I would definitely recommend it.
