  • Decent sports bar near Ossington on Dundas Street. I like that they have lots of high def tv's, probably the most of any Dundas St sports bar. I came when there was admittedly no high profile games on so I can't speak to the atmosphere of what it would be like during game time. Being a slower day, we were able to enjoy their plentiful variety of games to play. They've got everything from a shuffleboard table, foosball, billiards, basketball shooting thing, pinball, and even an N64 with NFL Blitz hooked up. They have a decent mix of beers on tap ranging from $6.75 to $8 (tax included) for a 16oz pint. Craft options via Amsterdam 3 Speed and Boneshaker, international selections of Stiegl, Kronenbourg 1664 and Blanc, and then corporately owned things including some Mill Street brands. Foodwise, I'll admit we came as their website mentioned offering sliders of a variety of meats. Turns out they have a new menu which is very slimmed down to about 5 types of sandwiches which come with fries, and otherwise just chicken wings and a literal handful of other apps. I had the Fried Chicken sandwich which has pieces of fried chicken in the middle of a grilled cheese sandwich. The sandwich was good albeit a bit dry. My friend had the open faced brisket sandwich. Neither of us were crazy enthused about the meal but at the end of the day we had fun during our visit to the Contender. And truth be told, I'll probably come back to check out the place when a game is on as their A/V set up does seem pretty on point.
