A great way to spend a few hours meandering downtown Carefree with a Thunderbird Artists Fine Art & Wine Festival glass plus drink tickets. The art is spectacular and can be very educational. I especially enjoyed talking directly to artists who created 1) leaves of all sizes transformed into colorful wall hangings (even giant lily pads several feet across), 2) large unique stones with wax heads & hands transformed into bronze and 3) very large colorful rock shaped and polished (eg., a Mobius strip - Google Mobius and imagine how difficult it would be to carve from a solid rock) and mounted on pedestals (some rocks came from Zion National Park when the public was allowed in to collect rocks when a new road was built).
There were several wine tasting booths but my two favorites were International Wines from Germany and Austria and decent local wine from PSC near Sedona. The 'hook" with the international wine was one had to purchase a case at a time for several hundred dollars. Page Springs Cellars (PSC) started making wine in 2003 specializing in handcrafted Rhone style wines. Good enough to convince me to drive to Sedona in several days to check out the wine tasting room open daily from 11 AM to 6 PM.
