Be very prepared before you buy a car. I thought I was but was in the wrong frame of mind when I purchased my new 2016 Honda Accord - EX L v6.
First I admit I should have been more diligent in researching what my trade in was really worth. Second, I should have taken their offer and visited other dealers. So I take full credit for both those mistakes.
However, I regret letting them talk me into the additional anti-theft security that would be activated IF I paid an additional 1740 (or close to that) I was hesitating and the finance guy gave me all these stolen vehicles figures. I still hesitated because it was raising my monthly payment an additional $40 (I also bought Honda Extended Care for $554).
I was convinced when the finance guy TOLD ME straight out that it would lower my insurance with the additional anti-theft. I responded that it really would help offset the additional $40. I didn't expect a $40 reduction for at least $10 or so.
Boy was I taken for a ride. I called my insurance (Progressive) and it turns out NEVADA doesn't even provide an option to ask about additional anti-theft on a car for a discount.
After I get my papers to register the car I'll never go back to THAT dealership unless I have no other choice.
As I said - i take responsibility on being taken on my trade-in value (I looked at the wrong website :-( - KBB says 3500-45000 and they gave me $3000 and put it on the lot for $7,000)
However, their misleading tactics to convince you for the additional anti-theft by providing MISINFORMATION I will not. Had he said he wasn't sure if it would lower my insurance I would have passed.
NEVER AGAIN HONDA!
PS - another mistake is not checking my insurance before I went car shopping -- it actually lowered my monthly payments buying a new car. But Honda knows who they can take advantage of and who they can't. No need to lie outright.
