My 95 y.o. gramma went to emergency by herself complaining of abdominal pain (and, she never complains). She was an active volunteer with a razor sharp memory. The attending physician in the ER didn't do any labs, pronounced her "constipated" and promptly sent her home.
The next morning she was in a coma due to renal failure and was hospitalized. Because she was so far gone, she had to live her remaining 6 years with no memory, no cognitive function, a concomitant broken hip and hip replacement, and severely diminished quality of life.
Doctors are known for being ageist, especially when the elderly are admitted alone, but I want RVHS to know they ruined a perfectly great life and I'm so sad over this.
