| - I just purchased a new home with D.R. Horton, and this guy who claims to be from ADT approached me about getting an alarm system. He asked if he could use my front yard to place an ADT sign, so when new homeowners purchase homes in the area, this will act as advertising for the company. In exchange he offered to give me free security survellance equipment, with free installation, but I had to act on it immediately. Furthermore, he said to activate the service there would be a one time fee of $250.00, and the monthly monitoring charge would be $79.00. I mentioned that seemed high, and he offered another package for $59.00 a month. After more discussion and telling him that someone threw a rock in our front window just days before, I asked if I could let him know in the morning, that I would like to think about it, and he said he couldn't extend this offer to me the next day, it had to be done then. He continued on about the savings, how much more I would pay if I got the service later on, etc. He then advised me that two homeowners in the area had their homes broken into in recent weeks, one being a professional baseball player, who ended up purchasing the system at full price, that he was offering me for free.
He then asked me questions which I thought were a bit unusual. He wanted to know if I was away often? Who would be living here? If I had a dog? Was I ever burglarized? Did I know someone who was burglarized? The questions made me feel uneasy, as if he was prying for info. He continued pressuring me into getting his system, and I repeatedly stated I wanted to think about it, and do my own "due diligence". After being here for almost two hours, he finally left.
Since that visit, I have seen him on my street a few more times. I find this suspicious because up until a few days ago, I was the only one who lived here, while the other homes were being built, and there wasn't any reason for him to be driving around here especially since these streets are all cul-de-sacs.
Two days ago someone started moving into the house next door. From what I understand, they closed escrow the previous day, and that night someone broke into their home through the garage. This came as a surprise to me because I am especially conscientious of the neighborhood, always keeping an eye out for anything unusual. As expected, the following day the ADT guy showed up offering his services to these new homeowners as well.
Now, I don't want to give the impression that this ADT guy had anything to do with these break in's, but he has given me reason to be weary of him based on his actions, and what he has said. I wonder if sales are down so he uses fear to get people to purchase his product. I believe ADT is a viable and honest company, but I wonder if sales quotas and other commission related factors are causing this activity to take place. Stay tuned, as I investigate further into this person of interest! I don't have a pic of him, but he is about 25 years old, Caucasian with dark brown or black hair, about 5'8, thin build, very well spoken, carries an iPad, and drives a newer model black little Mini Cooper or similar FIAT with blacked out tinted windows.
