  • I've been a Cox customer for many years. Recently I was charged a late fee for my internet service, despite being on EASY PAY. That's right, I'm auto-billed every month, but was still charged a late fee for Cox's own system failure in this instance. The rep said it's my responsibility to make sure their system processes my auto-pay on time. Customer's fault. I could go on with anecdotes about the endless spam Cox sends its customers year after year trying to get them to upgrade, or how Cox refused to compensate me in any way for a loss of two days of work due to their internet failure causing lost productivity (I work from home.) In general Cox internet service is excellent, but I'm paying $73/month for that excellence, so Cox shouldn't pat themselves on the back. PBS.org reports that Americans pay more for broadband internet than any other country in the world due to limited competition, yet last year (2015) Cox filed a lawsuit against the city of Tempe to stop Google fiber from coming to town. A few weeks ago (June 2016), Cox scored a 59/100 in the American Customer Satisfaction Index, ranking it among the lowest rated companies in America, and tied for the second least satisfying subscription TV service (out of 12), as reported by Marketwatch. If you're shopping for internet and TV service, you can do the math.
