| - I was sent there from my Veterinary on Saturday 5/23/15. He wanted her to have an Echocardiogram and be evsluated by their Cardiologist. When I got there they took her from me while I filled out paperwork. I was then taken to an exam room to wait. After about 10 minutes a Vet Tech came and took my cats history. After another 20 minutes the vet came in and at my request brought me my cat. I wouldnt say she was quite condesending, but she was far from pleasant. Her first words were she is sick, Critical, and we need to talk about Euthanasia. I said NO. She had Renal Failure, Anemia, and Tachycardia. She thought that she POSSIBLY had Mammary Cancer that had spread to her kidneys and heart. Nothing was definitive. My cat had some shortness of breath, her high blood pressure was still there, and her renal values and anemia had been basically unchanged during my regular Vet check. I brought her in and her eyes were bright, she was energenic. They gave her something to "calm her down" during their exam. When she was returned to me het eyes were glassy, she was confused and I think she was hallucinating because she just sat and strained to stare at the corner in the wall. Their plan was xrays, fluids, meds to slow her heart, blood, oxygen and no Echocardiogram or Cardiologist till Monday. The estimated cost of care for 72 hours was $2700.00. Then she wanted the Internal Medicine Vet to evaluate her kidneys and lungs and check out the Possibility of Cancer. This would not be done till Tuesday and was not included in the estimated cost. I agreed to the estimated things only. I left her there. My husband and I returned to visit her at 9:00pm that evening. She was happy to see usn she was active and her eyes were bright. My husband and I both confirmed that she was willing to fight. The next morning I got an update call telling me her lungs were better because they diureased her. Her heartrate was normal because they gave her a beta blocker and her blood pressure was down. She said she is still critical but some better, they didnt give blood, she wouldnt eat for them and she was holding her pee. I consented to a cathether. Then 30 minutes later she called me back and said she had taken a turn for the worse and if I wanted to see her I needed to get there. I arrived 20 minutes later. She was brought to me and immediately was asked to consent to euthanasia, again I said NO. She was lethargic, tounge sticking out, eyes glazed over and thick blood tinged mucous hung from her mouth. I took her and knew she was not in pain or suffering. I held her until she passed 15 minutes later. The Vet re-entered the room and asked if I was ready to sign the Euthanasia consent. I said No, she has already passed. She had to verify this. The Vet was now more empathetic and understanding. I asked for a specific Pet Aftercare service and was told that he did not pick up at their location, so I chose to take her with me. I called my aftercare person, he answered. I explained the situation and told him what they had told me. He said that it was not true, that he pick up there at least once a week. He was out of town and couldnt pick up until late Monday or early Tuesday. I then asked the Vet Hospital if they could hold her for me until he could pick up, after a wait they said yes.
I feel she was mis-treated and given a med to sedate that basically took her life. The Vet Techs and Vet I was totally unvimpressed with. I have a 53 year history of cats, and I am an RN. I have walked this path before and the care i received was underwhealming. The only positive is that the Front Desk Staff was Exceptional. They were kind, caring, sympathetic, and very helpful.
