| - In all of my 25 years of owning a business and traveling for both business and pleasure, I have never experienced such a disaster of a car rental agency as this particular HERTZ location. The counter clerks and the Pittsburgh Airport Hertz manager were unbelievably rude and inept. They could not communicate with me or understand my issue even on the most basic level. I had to repeat myself over and over again. It got to the point that I thought either they were intentionally messing with me or I was on a hidden video television show or something. I was like trying to communicate with people from a parallel universe. Absolutely the worse experience I have ever received from any service business.
The main issue was, that I had made a reservation via Hertz nationwide 800 telephone reservation system, but when I arrived at the airport, there was no reservation under my name and surprise, they were out of the standard size SUV's which I had reserved. I had no choice other than to rent a more expensive full size SUV which I didn't need or want.
When I returned the vehicle 2 days later, I thought I would ask if I could be charged for the standard size vehicle I reserved (although they lost my reservation), and not be up-charged for the larger car. The first counter service person would not let me speak to the site manager until I explained what my complaint was about. When I explained my issue, the Hertz rep couldn't understand what my issue was. No mater how calmly and slowly and basic I explained my issue, she was fixated on a completely different set of issues. Absolutely no communication at play at this Hertz. When the location manager finally graced me with her attention (seemingly annoyed that she had to come up front from her back room office, she was no better. I had to explain over and over to her as well. They are like robots -- programed only to hear what they want to hear. They are literally repelling their customers with rudeness, inattention and extremely poor customer service.
(By the way, I also found out that each and every HERTZ rental car is equipped with a hidden GPS location tracker so they know in real time, exactly where you are. I have a real concern over the privacy issues this presents. I think HERTZ customers should be made aware of this before hand.)
Although I have been a HERTZ customer in the past, I will NEVER consider renting from HERTZ again or any other car rental company that is aligned with HERTZ if it can be avoided. This type of blatantly indifferent attitude towards their customer's needs and concerns has got to stop or they will eventually find themselves without sufficient customer to stay in business.
My advice -- Don't Rent from the Pittsburgh Airport HERTZ. As a side note, their full-size SUV was not a full size SUV by anyone's standards except perhaps Hertz standards. It was a standard size SUV with a weak 4 cylinder engine that could barely get out of its own way. I actually did have trouble getting up a certain steep incline on my return trip to the airport. The vehicle was straining to maintain 20 MPH in a 45 MPH zone.
