| - I was looking for an outdoor bird store that was closer to where I live. Previously I was trekking out to Matthews and it's just quite a hike when you really have no other reason to go out there.
So I did some searching on Yelp and Google and found this store. The Observer also did a nice article on this store.
What impresses me most about this store is the owner. She wasn't there when I visited but from what I've read she really cares about nature, not just birds. From the website: "Carol is a Habitat Steward with the National Wildlife Federation, a Master Composter with Mecklenburg County, founder of HAWK (Habitat and Wildlife Keepers) and Vice President of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation and her approach to attracting birds is a holistic one. 'Attracting birds is more than putting up feeders, it's ensuring that all the elements birds and native wildlife need to survive and thrive, are present'.
Try getting that kind of background at any other place that sells outdoor bird food, birdhouses and feeders.
Inside the store, it's neatly organized and not too cluttered. They have natural-appearing bird baths and small fountains, bird feeders, bird houses, outdoor bird and animal food, and various garden accessories.
The woman working today was very helpful and explained all the upcoming events the store is hosting and offered to put me on the email list and the Seed club. The seed club deal is you spend $200, you get $10 back.
I'm pretty sure I found my new place for my backyard birds. I know the cardinals in my backyard are very happy with the seed blend and that is what really matters.
