A huge hamburger fan as well as Wahlburg fan.. was so excited to visit the new restaurant that opened in the North Hills area of Pittsburgh. They do not accept reservations so my first trip was on a week day - hoping to beat the crowd. It wasn't as bad as I expected. The area where the restaurant is - the mall has completely been revamped... and guessing this restaurant was opened here to attract more businesses to the local stores/area. I just found it odd of all places for Walburgs is in the North Hills - not downtown or southside etc. BUT!!!! I am all for more jobs and do like to see other areas of the Burg thrive. There is a small bar (about 10 bar stools) you can grab a drink or eat at. The dining room consists of tables mostly - only a few booths. I thought it would be bigger in size but it was just right. There is also an outside balcony with outside seating. So we only had to wait about 15 minutes for a table (Thursday 5 pm). I expected to wait longer. I like the fact that my table status was sent to me via text msg through yelp!
Seated at our booth ... service was good. We had studied the menu so we knew what we wanted. I of course wanted to try several menu items. The mac n cheese with bacon ...$3.50 and worth it but folks its on the borderline of the sharing size. It was good and very flavorful and no doubt one of our favorite parts of the meal. The tater tots (regular not yams!) We were excited about this menu item but when they arrived.. they looked like frozen tater tots!? I could have bought two bags for $3.50 at the grocery store. They were bland and a disappointment. We tried dipping them into the walburg sauce and that sauce was ok - a bit odd. Seemed like mayonnaise and ketchup? Then the fries.. ok so they weren't fresh cut but were definitely better than the tots. The onion rings.. we were sold when we saw they were "house made" .. and if you are a lover of onion rings.. its so fun to dip but when these arrived.. they looked like deep fried onions straws that belong on a burger? They were tough to eat and so odd. I get it.... It's a different twist on the popular fried food - but was also a disappointment. Basic tossed salad..dressing on the side - ranch - was requested. The salad came and it was accompanied with the ranch dressing but it was already dressed with a vinaigrette dressing? Ok mis-haps happen. It was obviously someone elses salad.. another server put it back that way or something? It was just odd. Then the burgers arrived. I loved mine. It lived up to my expectations. The atmosphere was cool but the food was lacking. My boyfriend was so excited that there were cupcakes on the menu and when we inquired about those.. were told that they didnt have cupcakes but donuts?? Donuts for dessert? Ugh I will pass.
We had to ask for silverware? Why weren't they on table or provided when we were seated?
It was disappointing. Myself and my party were not impressed. The prices weren't too bad but it was one thing after the next.
Perhaps the restaurant is just experiencing growing pains.
