went on a Thursday evening with the BF and a couple new friends. REALLY like the decor - it's simple and linear and truly avoids the overdone "kitschy" thing. I especially love the shelves in the dining room lined with mini tiki heads.
Our server, a blonde gentleman, was attentive and very friendly throughout. Cool guy.
I had two martinis - the blood Orange martinis. they were good, but they had actual chewable chunks of ice floating on top - which is really unusual for a martini. Maybe I was more worried about being caught chewing ice and having someone across the dining room think "Geez that guy is sexually frustrated".
We ordered and enjoyed both the tuna poke (nice portion) and i think the fish tartar with these really great crisps that accompanied them.
Din din? I had Tuna steak in lemongrass. Though the taste was good, the temp was so-so. A little on the medium to cold side. Also - for the price you pay, rice and a small lump of coleslaw don't cut it with me. They need to amp up the sides a bit.
WARNING: SUPER PICKY MOMENT!
If you're gonna have a carefully thought out restaurant like this with good design and an urban feel, PLEASE make your staff dresscode at least a half notch above "jeans and a black t-shirt with the restaurant name screenprinted on it". We can get this in nearly every casual restaurant in Phoenix, and it's a really tired look. It's like at Pita Jungle where the servers don't even wear aprons with their street clothes. They might as well be grungy ASU students that are getting initiated and have to serve lunch for a day as part of it. Looks sloppy, feels sloppy. It's sloppy.
Get a little more 'umph' behind your side dishes, and you may be able to stay on the map for some time!
