  • We were transferred to this company from our prior pool cleaning agency. We had a full service package and were told they would follow it. Within a couple of weeks I found out they only check and treat the pools chemically every other week. I found this odd but really what do I know about pools. On the fourth week I was told that the person who serviced my pool said my pool is turning green and a manager would be at my home the next day to figure out what was going on. The manager told me that my pool was not turning green that it was never reported that way and that it had some algae. He then said that the pool was doing fine after treatment but my pump wasn't being ran long enough at night. Somehow my timer was switched from 7 hours to 4 hours. Weird but ok. He then recommended that I empty my 10,000 gallon pool before the next season because the stabilizers were getting too high. He told me that should be done every two years. I have never been told this by a pool contractor as I was told you do 1/3 of the pool at a time. When I questioned it I was told that it wasn't efficient to do it that way. Cost $135 for them to come empty and retreat the pool. They also charge roughly $30 more than the average to clean the filter cartridge and I was told I need a brand to part for a leak I have in my equipment. After he left I went and had my water checked somewhere else where I discovered my levels were nowhere near needing a total water change. I also needed phosphate which they hadn't added. I called another pool company and was told that emptying your pool is kind of a drastic measure and they tend not to recommend it unless it's absolutely needed. (It's wasteful). Though the decision is considered opinion based I feel as though the Pool Man is out to charge as much as possible regardless of the need. I also found that they prefer you to have a salt water pool and almost everyone you talk to that works there will recommend switching over. I told the manager I wasn't interested because I had heard it causes any metals around your pool to rust. He was told me he never heard of something like that happening because of salt water. Ummm it's salt water.. After reading the other reviews on yelp I am confident that cutting my losses now was a great idea!
