| - Nearly 500 Yelpers in and I highly doubt I'll have anything uniquely funny, interesting, compelling, or innovative to say about Bouchon, but I must say that my girlfriends and I had the most incredible experience here, food, service, and ambience combined!
In my opinion, a 'fancier' restaurant separates itself from the pack due to one (or both) of two things: 1) quality of service, and 2) quality of product offered. Bouchon definitely turned the amp up to 11 on both fronts. Not one to shy away from eating myself ridiculous at a beautiful and high-priced establishment, here's a short list of what I ordered for myself (I did share with others, now, so don't worry):
-- entree: a GIGANTIC veal chop, sous vide with aromatics, fricassee of fava beans, baby corn and roasted red peppers, and a delicious tarragon crema-like sauce
-- side: pommes frites... come on now
-- side: macaroni au gratin... TOTALLY worth it
-- 1000mL of a spectacular Riesling
-- 1/2 dozen oysters (from both British Columbia and Washington)
-- French Onion soup... had to do it.
While my side of the bill turned out to be significantly larger than the other gals' portions, I didn't care. I don't come to Vegas to go clubbing. I don't come to Vegas to merely just get drunk. And I sure as hell don't go to Vegas to eat at McDonalds in between such ventures. As a 'developing' foodie myself, I found Bouchon to be the most perfect entry point between typical fine dining and 'fooooormal' restaurant (Joel Robuchon, you are so next on my list!).
Our kind and generous server provided us with three things to cap off our wonderful night with Chef Thomas Keller:
-- vanilla bean infused creme brulee
-- brownie 'bouchons' (= corks, in French) topped with three different types of homemade ice cream (do NOT miss the mint chip... it is to DIE FOR)
-- a house cocktail shot called "the grand cru"
ALL were seriously soooooo so good.
The greatest part about the night, however, was our server, Paul, and some of the other guys whose names we unfortunately didn't catch. Admittedly, we were a raucous, wild bunch (relatively speaking of course), and even though we weren't drunk or exhausted in the least, we were definitely the most animated and probably borderline offensive group in the whole joint -- and we stuck around for 3 hours! THANK YOU SO MUCH PAUL (I hope that is your name... you called us 'young 'ins' and you had Weezer-style emo-ish glasses on) for making our trip to Bouchon worth it a thousand times over!
Signed, the Captain of this ship!
