| - One of the great things about visiting/living in a big city, is how many options are available to you. Even if a place you like is closed, you can always find something else a couple blocks down.
That was exactly what happened to me when I was hanging out with a local friend in Toronto. I was hoping to go with her to get Japanese crepes and parfaits, but unfortunately the place I had in mind closed at 8:30 PM. We instead did a search for various dessert places, and just happened to find this place in a search.
Matcha is all the rage in the Asian dessert scene these days, and Tsujiri happens to be one of those places that specializes in the various green tea flavored desserts. Ranging from lattes, to sundaes, to shaved ice, Tsujiri serves a wide variety of matcha products for your needs. Looking at the various options, I opted for the Chiffon Cake Houjicha Sundae, and I must say I was thoroughly impressed.
Whenever you get matcha, you always get just a mild bit of bitterness that goes with the sweetness. Such was the case with my dessert. but the blend was very good. The sundae came with houjicha soft serve, corn flakes, chiffon cake, and red bean. Everything blended together nicely - the corn flakes surprisingly meshed with the ice cream incredibly well. It tasted more like a parfait than a sundae, but the flavor was nevertheless present.
It's not the type of dessert place I'd deliberately go out of my way to introduce to my friends, but Tsujiri is overall solid.
