| - Renter beware. Trust me on this one; there is a legitimate reason for their star rating / reviews.....they earned their reputation. I sincerely wish it was possible to leave 0 or .5 stars. We had the unfortunate pleasure of leasing from NREC for 5 years (2012-2017). They are legitimately the worst property management company I have ever had the displeasure of working with. The ONLY reason they received 1 star was our rent was never raised; although I suspect that aspect had more to do with the home owner than them.
Rented the property in 2012, initially they wanted to charge us a non-refundable $400 cleaning fee. We decided to refuse the deposit and clean the property ourselves -#1 HUGE mistake, the previous tenants were drug users (as confirmed by neighbors). The place was in shambles; burn marks on carpets, screens missing, filthy carpets, etc, etc.
For the first 6-months, when paying rent, which had to be in person, they kept telling me we owed for utilities from the time we moved in until the time utilities got switched over into our name (over $200). I told them I was fine in paying the bill, however I was not going to take their word for it and needed to be provided a copy of the bill; which they refused to provide. They finally stopped asking for the money when I told them I absolutely would NOT pay the bill based solely on their word without documentation.
Fast forward, dealing with their "repair man" was absolutely a nightmare. #1 they charge a $60 per visit maintenance fee. We had to have the garage door repaired x3, the refrigerator replaced, the washer repaired, the dryer repaired; the AC replaced. They attempted to charge me the $60 fee for each of the garage door repairs, to which I refused and stated had the work been done correctly the first time, they would not have had to come back the other times.
I could go on and on (and on) but i simply do not have time. Fast forward to 2017 when we moved out on 07/31/2017. I gave them notice of our intent to move out on 06/30/2017. They were clearly irritated as we were renting month to month. We scheduled our final walk through for 07/26/2017. The inspector was 3 hours late. Yes, 3-hours late; and took 90-minutes to complete the inspection. She asked for our receipts for professional cleaning and carpet cleaning. We informed her professional cleaning other than carpets was not in our lease; to which she snidely responded yes it was and we would be billed for it - which if you think about it, is a total racket on their part, they wanted to charge us $400 to move in for cleaning and then wanted us to pay for professional cleaning when we moved out? Total scam.
When we finally received our deposit and itemization, I was fully prepared to take them to court, however my desire to just be done with them and the property overrode my decision. They hit is for about $1000 on our deposit.
Renter beware. You have been warned.
