| - We have driven past this place multiple times and have thought - "that looks beautiful, we need to try it."
We tried Sarah's last year with some friends and were not huge fans. But when my wife and I tried it again this time we thoroughly enjoyed it. Since not much has changed, I put some thought into why I happened to like it this time.
Was it just my mood? Have my taste buds changed?
I think I have figured it out, and I think that if you read this review and go in with correct expectations, you will enjoy Sarah's as well.
In my opinion, the key to having a great night at Sarah's is to realize up front that it is not a traditional restaurant. There is a menu, but it is made up of pizza, appetizers, and sandwiches served with paper plates. There are no waiters or waitresses. You order everything at the bar and grab a seat.
I think that this matters a lot. If look at Sarah's from the road and think, "what a beautiful place for a date" you would be right. But, going into said date expecting to be served with fine cuisine will render you sorly disappointed.
You will have to wait at the bar trying to flag down a bar tender like a college kid on dollar beer night. It could take a bit. You don't even get your own menu - they are sort of scattered around the bar area. Need some water? You'll have to fill it up yourself at the big orange igloo at the corner of the bar.
Joe, if you are not expecting that scene, it can be immediately frustrating. But, if you have read this review, you now know what to expect. So, let's assume you are happy to do the aforementioned bar-battle. What else can you expect?
The ambiance is incredible. They have many outdoor seating options both in the large pavilion and outdoor deck. You will not be dissatisfied with the views.
The wine is decent. It is nothing to right home abput, but it is not priced high either. They have several options, so you'll be happy regardless of your preference.
The food is actually quite good. As I mentioned before, the options are limited - finger food in style. But they are prepared well and my wife and I enjoyed sharing a pepperoni pizza, spinach dip, and pretzels with beer cheese. We each grabbed a half carafe of our favorite wine, and hung out on the deck for a few hours.
I give three stars for 2 reasons. First, even when you know what to expext, the whole experience of ordering is a pain in the butt. Next, I hate that I had to eat off a paper plate. Finally, the food and wine are not exceptional - just fine in my opinion.
But, the vibe beats all. If you are into wine and cheese wine friends outside, this place is for yoh. Give it the ol college try.
