Just came back from a last minute weekend getaway at the Phoenician. We booked massages at the Centre for Well Being, expecting to be pampered. The spa itself is certainly need of some major renovating / updating. The "relaxation room" is really a large, bright waiting room where people are chatting and bustling about. It is very crowded and does not feel luxury at all. At high end spas I expect to have at least one relaxation area that feels very soothing where one might be able to meditate or simply have a quiet moment. The chairs in the relaxation room appear old and one was covered in oil, yuck! The jacuzzi in the women's locker room appears dated, small and uninviting. My massage therapist was a bit "off". She was annoyed with me because I had jewelry on and she complained that she does not like it when clients come in wearing jewelry. She asked me to remove my necklaces and while doing so in the area she designated in the massage room, I inadvertently spilled some essential oils. She chastised me and told me that the oils are very expensive and she gets in trouble it too much is gone. It was bizarre experience, to say the least. The massage was mediocre. I was too concerned about the mental state of the massage therapist to even complain. These massages and spa services are quite expensive, so I would expect more.
