  • Despite reading about all kinds of shady contract practices and all of that, I decided to join over 6 months ago. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I haven't gone in months and not wanting to pay the exorbitant sign-up fee again, just kept paying the super high monthly fee anyway. Honestly, I was a little bit frustrated by the fact that I was paying so much while also generally either having to wait for an exercise bike, or using one that didn't have working electronics. On top of that, the showers are pretty gnarly, half the time I would go and there were not towels, and the locker rooms are tiny. My parents belong to a branch in a suburb with the same amount of equipment, but they pay half of what I do because it's not a 'flagship' store. The only real difference is apparently the fact that there is towel service. It's obviously due to the fact that this location is more centralized and they can milk the crowd. But hey, it's no big deal, I can deal with gross showers and crap equipment. I was planning on returning this winter. However, I ended up losing my debit card a week ago which happened to coincide with the billing cycle. Thus began a cacophony of phone calls. I received on average THREE phone calls a morning outside of business hours all within minutes of each other. This cycle would continue through the afternoon. Who calls someone at 8am three times in a row? On top of this I was getting calls from trainers trying to guilt me into coming in, I guess. It's completely predatory and unprofessional practice to harass someone who has been throwing money at you for months and not even using your service. My voicemailbox is absolutely slammed with these garbage calls because I have a job and can't drop what I'm doing in the middle of a meeting to talk to someone at their demand, about something so trivial. I suggest you think twice about signing up if you have any semblance of a normal life where things happen and your highest priority isn't your gym membership.
