  • Every time we've attempted to go to the original SD location, we were deterred by the line wrapped around the building. So after our quick brunch at Bronze Cafe, we peeked over at Donut Bar and were shocked to be able to see the front door. It also gave us the chance to continue our tradition of donuts on road trips. We walked in and perused the daily menu and made our way to the display case. The one that jumped out at me was the split donut stuffed with strawberries and whipped cream. My boyfriend stalks DB on Instagram and knew he wanted the Big Poppa Tart. I asked the sweet girl helping us out what the vegan options of the day were: apple fritter, creme brulee, chai latte cake donut, and yes, that strawberry cream beauty was in fact, a vegan soy-based whipped cream. The decision was easy for me because I'm not a big apple fan. One of each, minus the fritter. The creme brulee was of the yeast-risen variety. On top of the golden brown donut was a cap of hardened caramel that shattered at the first bite. Bite two yielded a rich ooze of vanilla bean-specked custard. The chai donut was exactly what I wanted. I'm a lover of cake donuts and this one did not disappoint. There was nothing "vegan-tasting" about it. It was just a great cake donut. The warm spices gave this a Fall feel and I was happy this was an option available in May. The strawberry cream donut was saved for last. I discarded the top because by the time I reached this, it was a little dry. The cream was dense, but still light and I couldn't believe it was dairy free. The strawberries were perfectly selected, juicy and sweet. I enjoyed the cake donut over the yeast-risen ones, but that's always been my preference. Still, I was very impressed by the vegan offerings. Street metered parking was easy to find because the location is in Old Vegas area.
