| - My wife and I went to Taco Guild for dinner and to hear a friend who was playing there. Taco Guild has both good and not-so-good aspects. So in the spirit of ripping a band-aid off quickly, let's begin the not-so-good.
First, parking is a nightmare. I didn't know that a majority of the parking by the entrance is complimentary valet; not a big deal since it is complimentary until I realized I had no cash for a tip-- the valet was working his behind off and was very nice.
We went inside to put our name on the list and expected a 60-75 minute wait-- the hosts were spot on with the estimation, we were seated about 65 minutes later. The wait was expected and not totally outrageous since it was a Saturday night; however, there was no place to wait without being in the way of people running food, others trying to enjoy the music, etc. So we kept moving around and around.
Also didn't know that reservations were accepted. While we were standing around there were a few large tables that were half empty because they were reserved. I know, they were reserved, but it still doesn't make customers too excited to wait 60 to 75 minutes with tables half empty. Still not a huge deal since we were listening to the band.
We were seated within the wait-time we were told when we arrived-- so kudos to the hosts! My wife ordered a margarita she said was very good. I had a soft drink and water and my daughter had a soft drink as well.
We started with the Guild Trio which was good. The tortilla chips were hit and miss. Some were fine others tasted like they had been left in the fryer too long and were extremely oily and soft. We also had the Fundido. There aren't many fundido sauces I don't like and the Taco Guild was no exception. The Fundido was good, but it tasted like velveeta queso dip. Which again, I don't have a problem with Velveeta, but when you spend $9 on an appetizer and the chips are suspect, the Fundido should be orgasmic.
The Guild Trio was good and my wife liked the guacamole. I thought the guacamole could have used a bit more garlic or salt and pepper. Now I'm not a guacamole connoisseur so take my opinion for what it is worth.
Then I had the Pork Adovada, Guild Chicken and the Yucatan Shrimp tacos with the Borracho Red Beans. The adovada taco had a nice flavor but was a little dry. The Guild chicken taco also had a nice flavor to it, but the chicken had a weird texture to it which threw me off-- I'm easily put off by foods with weird textures. The Yucatan Shrimp taco was delicious. My wife had the same except she had the taco braised with coffee, I can't remember the name. It was really good. My daughter had a salad which was nothing more than iceberg lettuce with red beans. The Borracho Red Beans tasted like cowboy beans.
Overall the food was good enough that I will definitely try Taco Guild again for different tacos. However, the prices were a little high on some of the menu items.
