| - I've rented from this place several times before, with the same experience I am about to share. First of all, there is a 'premium' that you pay for obtaining a rental car in downtown Toronto that makes it nearly double the price of renting from an airport or other location, which they chalk up to 'demand' in addition to 'parking fees' downtown. I really need someone to explain why it is that customers who are PICKING UP vehicles are required to pay for the parking?
The counter staff at this location are pleasant and offer upgrades and recommendations. However, once you go downstairs to pick up the car, there are several employees who make the experience unpleasant. As a frequent car renter, I am very aware of the process which includes your own inspection of the vehicle to make sure that it is without damages and up to par; only then do you sign the damage waiver. However, at this location, there is one particular individual who makes a huge fuss over the fact that I absolutely REFUSE to sign a damage waiver before I actually conduct the inspection myself. On one occasion, I asked him if he would sign a will or life insurance policy without reading it. His answer is always that it is a waste of his time to have customers first inspect, then let him know of any damage and THEN sign.
As a paying customer, I have every right to take as much time as I'd like to thoroughly inspect the vehicle to make sure that it is safe, and I will continue to do so.
This last time, the car I rented was actually quite filthy, with stains everywhere and smelled like smoke, and this was AFTER they said it had been cleaned. First they refused to offer me another car, then I said I wanted to speak to their boss, and suddenly they changed their minds and said that if I wanted a new vehicle, it would take at least an hour more.
This is absolutely unacceptable, and I have also contacted Avis about this. There are plenty of other companies who I would rather give my business to, especially with the exorbitant prices they are charging.
