I recently had a chance to visit this restaurant. I went in with such high expectations. I left about $250 lighter in the wallet and not truly satisfied.
The service is exquisite. You will be amazed that the people serving your meal can so consistently pamper you. They are truly professional. No complaint here.
The beef. This is a steakhouse. It was expected they would have some high quality beef. The selection sounds good on the menu. I had a "kobe-style" skirt steak. It was $69. It was not as good as the $50 ribeye. Both had too much sauce, covering the delicious flavor of beef.
But the tragedy here, is the side dishes. They are each over $25. I had au gratin potatoes that were undercooked. I had some carrots that were horribly prepared, looked like extruded poop and had a horrible flavor. They were scorched in a few places and all were a dark brown or olive green color.
What makes me mad about this place is when I see Tom Colicchio berating people on Top Chef. I'd like to see him sit and eat the nasty $28 carrots. Then, I'd like to hear his dissatisfaction with au gratin potatoes that crunch. Perhaps instead of acting like a superior d-bag on TV, he should take a minute to clean up the mess back home.
Dessert was not spectacular.
The beef tartare appetizer was amazing, and I would highly recommend it. Just ask them to provide the onions and chives on the side. There must have been a 1/4 cup of them in the bowl.
