| - "The Cachet of Being Elite"... *looks up meaning of 'cachet' * Oh, right, it is a mark of distinction to be an elite.
If I'm honest, I was having some second thoughts as I was heading up for this event since it was a fair distance from my home. But my mood began to change with the pleasant drive on the way up, and as I was pulling into the venue, it was such a nice spot, situated right in downtown Newmarket and beside a lake.
Cachet is itself a great space, with a huge patio to fully take advantage of it's prime location. Later, as we heard from the owner, they have improved on their menu, the experience of being there as well as ensuring that they are giving back to the community.
The food was awesome, and quite a bold move to present only vegetarian options - though the restaurant does serve meat. If I had known that in advance, I may have had even more reservations about coming - yet experience can be different from expectations, and in this case I'm glad that it was.
The caprese salad skewers were nice and refreshing on the warm evening, with the ingredients being perfectly proportioned. The fried brussel sprouts were wonderful, likely being blanced before being fried and then the spicy sauce adding a nice kick to them. The edamame were nice and I enjoyed the sweet soy glaze over them. I didn't try the mushroom-stuffed ravioli since I don't like mushrooms, but everyone seemed to enjoy them.
The veggie burgers were the real winner though. I'm not even being hyperbolic when I say it was the best veggie patty I've had. Typically, I haven't enjoyed veggie patties which try to emulate meat. The better ones tended to be bean-based which weren't trying to pretend they weren't something else. In this case however, the patty was very similar to meat and not spongy at all, but also carried it's own full, unique taste. The spicy goat cheese really hit it out of the park and there was nothing with this burger that left anything to be desired.
Finally, as with all great Yelp events, the booze vendors deserve honourable mention. It was great to try Market Brewing for the first time, and their IPA was the first IPA I've enjoyed in quite sometime since it wasn't too hoppy, but still full-bodied. Nickel9Distillery brought out their new Vodka, and it went down nice and easy with the choice of mixed drinks.
It was wonderful evening, and I'm very glad I made it out. My only regret was missing out on the after party since I had to leave, as there great company and I would have loved to try more items. But I'll do my best to make it back here, and certainly anyone local needs to came and visit Cachet. Especially be sure to visit during the summer given their scenic location and that they will be doing BBQ through the season.
