I popped into Ancora mid-day on a Friday to work for about an hour while killing time until an appointment. There was plenty of seating in their sunny shop and the music was at a perfect volume - loud enough to enjoy but not so loud as to be distracting.
It felt about a bajillion degrees outside (probably because I'd come from loading up my car full of boxes in the sun), so a hot drink was out. I can't have caffeine, so I inquired about the availability of herbal iced tea. They only had a green tea available, but the baristas were kind enough to offer to brew me my very own cup. Rad! In the end I went with a lemonade (it sounded more refreshing than when I spied it in the case), but they are the first place to ever offer to make me something that would fit my needs.
I've been to Ancora in the past, my favorite time being for an free, intimate acoustic show with Chris Porterfield of Field Report. It's hard to beat getting to see one of the best lyricists in recent memory in a setting that feels like your own living room.
