| - OK, so I can't say I've stayed here but I can say I had to (was forced to) utilize two day's worth of the Imperial Hotel's Conference Rooms last week while in Vegas. One of the reasons I didn't book my room where the conference was held was due to the reviews I found on YELP and the awful Youtube videos of the rooms. Just out of curiosity, I asked two other fellow conference people where they were staying - they were not staying at the Imperial either. I didn't mind walking two miles a day round-trip staying at the Aria Hotel, and it was worth the effort. At least I could walk off my buffet-gut.
The conference rooms/salon are on the fourth floor. Women's bathrooms are also on the fourth floor...two whole stalls!. C'mon seriously - do they know what coffee does to people's bladders!! I had to trek through dark halls and use delapitated elevators to empty my bladder on another floor as I didn't want to pee my pants waiting in line (I also witnessed some kid rolling around on the handicapped bathroom stall floor as his mom sat next to him changing a baby's diaper - uh - can you say "hepatitis").
The non-smoking conference rooms reeked of smoke and the first day I couldn't stand it, I was getting a headache and my eyes were burning as I had to sit through 8 hours of it. I know what you are saying...it's vegas, get over it. True, but this was supposed to be NON smoking. And I couldn't escape. Urgh.
I walked past the spa and it was empty. No doubt. It looked like it hasn't been updated since 1972. Large salon chairs with those giant dryers you see used to dry Lucille Ball's beehive hairdo, foot spa things that look like they are used to polish bowling balls all sat dormant. I don't think I ever saw an attendant there until the last day, and that was only at the end of the day.
The shops outside were kiosk types- the kinds you see the local flea markets. I felt like I was back in Hawaii at the Waikiki Marketplace, which is not a bad thing, but everything looked cheezy and gaudy and covered with the dust of desparation and sour sweat.
Finding the hotel from the street is confusing. I walked past it on the first day. It sits off to the side and you have to look for the sign on the wall with the arrow pointing to the Imperial.
I can see why people would choose this for its central location, its very convenient, but if you want a nice ambience that's more modern and not so run down, this is not the place to stay.
