Electric Daisy Carnival did it again, and in the biggest way yet in Las Vegas! Their 20th Year Anniversary had them showcasing bigger and better shows with awesome DJ lineups I have seen thus far. For example, Zedd for the longest time did not want perform at EDC but looky look who showed up? Hot damn his set was lit!
Compared to last year, I believe entering and exiting the speedway has improved substantially. Out of the 3 days, the only day that was tough was day 2. It was difficult to leave the speedway via car, and it took us around 90 minutes to get out of the parking lot. Meh, but hey, I felt like the whole EDC experience is so worth it.
A couple of new stages appeared that I have wandered towards, including the upside down house stage and the newly revamped Kinetic Temple. Wow, I loved the Temple better than last year's rendition. All your major, well known DJs perform here, but this year I wanted to hear the lesser known, but up and coming acts.
EDC fireworks are insane, so many displays that put a lot of July 4th specials to shame. All these lasers... every visual aesthetic that Insomniac creates, it is built to perfection.
Not only is EDC lovely to look at, but also your fellow headliners. Seriously, no "f*cks are given here." People do not judge here and are free to express themselves. You can definitely sport a rave-ready outfit to the fullest, or pretty much be in your monkey suit. Vegas raging towards an average of 100 plus degrees each night, the au natural folks are at least trying to stay cool lol.
I drank lots of 5 dollar powerades during the festival to last me a long time. Water stations were placed in the right places, and the porty-potties... well the porty-potties are something to just get used to during your 3 day ventures. Maybe the ladies can get one of those portable funnels to use in there?
The positive, friendly vibes that EDC promotes was definitely present for the most part. However, I felt their were quite a few ravers in my experience this year that did not carry that PLUR (Peace,love, unity, and respect) mantra with them. Previous years at EDC, if someone accidentally bumped you, they most certainly would apologize. Or say excuse me when passing through. This year, those instances were very few and far between. EDCLV 2016 was composed of quite a bit of pushing, shoving, and rude *ss marks. I want EDC to last a long time, but I am a bit worried that part of the true meaning of EDC is "to take care of each other" is getting diluted. I am afraid there is a new breed of "bro" out there, I will call him the "raver bro." Be on the lookout, fellow headliners.
EDC's contract with the city of Las Vegas is due for renewal this year, but hopefully they will get to stay. I love the people that you get to met out there and the beautiful sounds and displays that Insomniac throws to your senses. I may not go again next year and try other festivals such as Ultra.
Insomniac, thank you again for making my annual ritual life cleansing an enjoyable event once more. I may return back "home" next year.
