| - Had to stay here for just three days and two nights for visiting because It seemed to be the best option in the area for a Marriott hotel. I have been to many Residence Inn's before and I have always been a fan of the room sizes and "home" like atmosphere so at the least, I was expecting a good room.
Throughout the stay, I felt like I went in a time warp. The entire room I stayed in was completely stuck in the 1980s. The kitchen had an updated granite counter along with the bathroom along with a flat-panel television but that was the extent of the upgrades I saw in my room. For starters, the kitchen appliances were completely dated with the rickety dishwasher, ivory refrigerator, and a falling apart stove. There were no strange smells coming from them and the cabinets were fully stocked with non chipped dishes so it wasn't that bad, the microwave was at least a bit newer.
Moving apart from the kitchen, the green carpets were nicely cleaned but the age clearly showed so I feel that an update is needed. The worst part of the room was the state that the furniture was in. The floor lamp by the fireplace wasn't working while the one by the sofa turned on but it's base was near falling over. The sofa bed that I had to sit on was incredibly firm and uncomfortable...never would want to sleep on it again and I recommend that no one has to go through what I went through. The actual beds were in decent shape but the sheets were stained on the first night so I do question on whether the room was properly cleaned.
The bathroom door's door stopper was busted so it made sort of an indentation on the already peeling wallpaper. What makes it worse is the cracking tile floors in the corners of the small area where the bathroom and toilet were. Besides these defects, the cleaning staff did do a great job cleaning the room on the other two days we stayed so it made the room look a lot nicer then what it really was.
Moving away from the room, the actual main lobby was very lovely to be in. It's definitely dated but it looks homey and warm, especially in the morning. They have a good amount of tables to sit at where the television and food areas are. The sitting room has a nice big television to watch with a big comfortable sofa to lounge in along with two side chairs and kudos to whoever donated that grandfather clock, it made the breakfast experience better then what I thought it was! Speaking of breakfast...
They had a good selection of food available on both mornings I was there with some of the choices being French toast, English muffins, regular muffins, sausage, eggs, and even the traditional cereal. They only had three cereal dispensers though which contained corn flakes, fruit loops, and cheerios so those options can be limited. However, for those wanting a grand breakfast, they have two waffle makers in which you can make your own Belgian waffles complete with whipped cream and syrup. Did I mention the bagels as well? I had sampled most to all of the hot breakfast and I can safely recommend the sausages, French toast, English muffins with gravy, and the scrambled eggs! As well as the great food, the staff were amazingly helpful and when my brother mistakenly messed up the waffle, one of the ladies made one for him from scratch without even asking for her to do it!
In addition to that woman, the entire staff which includes the cooking, cleaning, and even the managers were very helpful, friendly and attentive. This is really what made the entire experience worth staying.
On the other hand, the amazing staff is one thing but there was another issue I had to face which really hampered the duration of the stay. The internet connection that was provided was incredibly slow and often crashed during multiple times of the day, cutting off any activity I was doing at the moment. But on the plus side, this allowed me to take to the pool and hot tub area to relax in. They have these areas open till 9:00pm so you can get a nice dip in the whirlpool or take a swim in the evening hours if you need it, towels are always there!
So basically here are the main pro's of staying here if you so chose to..
- Amazing Staff (Friendly & Helpful)
- Great Breakfast Options
- Good Amenities (Pool, Whirlpool, Fitness Area, etc.)
- Good Room Sizes
- Great Atmosphere
- Pet Friendly (Some Rooms)
and the negatives or drawbacks:
- Slow WiFi
- Outdated Rooms
- Possibility of Broken Furniture
- Uncomfortable Sofa Beds
Compared to other hotels in the area, this isn't the worst option to pick at all but it is one of the best if you consider it staff wise. However, if you want a more modern and comfortable room experience, I would choose elsewhere to stay if you are going to be in this area for an extended period of time.
