  • I'm definitely going back to this salon. I've always had issues getting a stylist to actually cut my hair the way I want--I bring them a picture of something spiky and fun, and I get that cut's conservative cousin. If I say I want it short, I get something that has grown out in two weeks because the stylist didn't cut it short enough. This can be discouraging. I made an appointment for color with highlights and a cut. I was originally scheduled with one stylist, but there appeared to be some sort of mix-up and I ended up with Claire. Since her English was limited and my French is non-existent, I did the color consultation with Josh, an anglophone, and Claire took care of everything else. The language barrier didn't end up being an issue, though, because I brought a picture and she was still able to communicate clearly with me about ideas she had for my color and style. I sometimes worry about getting some attitude from Montrealers for not speaking French (yes, I understand why and I am doing my best to learn French) but she was friendly and nice and made me feel comfortable. And, most importantly, she cut my hair the way I wanted, with that little but of something extra you get when your stylist is good--a bit of extra effort, a small adjustment to make it look better on your face, and the knowledge that the cut's going to continue looking good as it grows out. The decor of the salon is fun, with a big London Calling mural and furniture reminiscent of the kind of garage you'd want to take your cool rockabilly car to. On my way out, one of the co-owners rang me up and was super friendly to the point of giving me a 25% off coupon for my next visit, and gave me a new-customer discount for my cut & color. The first hour I was there the stereo was playing nothing but Tom Petty and Poison. If you think this is awesome (and I do) then this salon is worth checking out. I am going to try to learn some new words so I can maybe talk about my hair in French to Claire next time.
