  • Another great hike to bring kids and dogs along to enjoy the spray of the waterfall, however I have to advise that on my last trip out here, the trails and paths are beginning to become eroded away from those who are cutting through the switchbacks by clambering up the side instead of sticking on the trail (which is making it confusing for beginner hikers). While they say its a strenuous hike, its strenuous in the fact of the elevation you're hiking up and the oxygen levels up there. Absolutely clean and fresh, Mary Jane Falls' temperature is usually a lot cooler than most other areas of Mt. Charleston. The water from the falls is absolutely freezing, but its a great reward to arrive at when you've hiked your butt off to get up there. The area is usually crowded with people, and I'd suggest not going on the weekends unless you absolutely have to (get there early enough to beat the crowds and get parking!) It really is an easy hike, but I would suggest wearing sturdy shoes made for hiking since its very easy to slip or miss your footing on the rocks on the way up. Mary Jane Falls is one of my favorite in the fact you really get a workout when you hike this, and the trail is only about two hours at most round trip depending on your pace up. This is a favorite spot to bring my friends from out of town to show the beauty of Mt. Charleston and the hidden wonders that are up here! Great place to beat the heat and cool off!
