| - By far the worst car rental experience I have ever had, and I have had the fortune of traveling a lot recently and renting quite often.
It all started from the beginning- the location is inconveniently located a fair distance from the airport. If you land on Terminal 1, you'll have to take a train to Terminal 3 first. Then you'll have to cal them from a specified telephone a little ways from the terminal. When I called, I was put on hold for about 8 minutes before I hung up. I called again and it was literally a 15 second call in which they said they'd send the shuttle.
You then take a shuttle that takes you to the pickup location which is a fair way from the airport.
Once I finally got there, the staff was rather condescending and rude which is fine. It was late in the night, and I'm not one to fret such staff.
The actual car was okay. The main issue I had is when I returned the car. I was slapped with an extra mileage fee- even though the contract and the carrentals.com posting says that there is unlimited mileage for "airline arriving customers". Furthermore I was charged extra when I mentioned I had crossed the border to Quebec. It was my own fault for being polite and making conversation. I was accused by the condescending and rude gentleman at the counter for having "violated my contract and having told them I would only be driving locally". I never mentioned nor was I asked whether I would be driving locally when renting the car, and the gentleman response when I told him this was " I do not believe that you were not told this when you were renting".
We both looked through the contract and we coils not identify any place where it was written that I would be charged extra for leaving Ontario, and how much The charge would be for that.
When I asked for the manager, the manager conveniently was unavailable for the weekend, and in the interests of time, I paid up and left.
In summary, it's totally not worth paying less. You'll be slapped with hidden costs that are probably illegal and justified with ambiguous texts in the contract. You'll have to go a considerable distance away from the terminal to get the car, and you'll have to interact with a bunch of condescending and rude young men.
