| - FRAUDS! I have Aetna insurance. I was referred to Dr. Berkley for a-fib and palpitations. Saw the doctor for all of five minutes, and he threw a LOT of tests at me he wanted done. The nurse scheduled as soon as the doctor left. I specifically asked about price. The nurse wrote down all the out-of-pocket charges I would be responsible for. Three ultrasounds, a two week heart monitor, and a nuclear stress test (PET). All told, it was going to run me between $600 and $700. At each and every single test appointment, I gave my insurance card. I was told how much I had to pay for my portion not covered by insurance. EACH TIME I specifically asked if I would have to pay anything else later. EACH TIME I was told no. I was covered. AND ALL THESE TESTS WERE DONE BY THEIR OWN IMAGING CENTER!!
Surprise! They ended their contract with Aetna four years ago. All the claims they sent to Aetna were rejected.
Today I received a bill for $13,574. Yup, thirteen THOUSAND dollars for all those test they told me I had paid everything I was responsible for.
Worst part? At my last visit, doc told me all my tests were fine and wanted to send me for more tests. I asked about the heart palpitations that I know the monitor recorded. His response? "Yeah, there were some extra beats in there". No formal diagnosis, no education, nothing. Just "need more tests".
I may have to get a lawyer. I was deceived, and I was used by him to make money.
