| - I went to Solutions in 2010 beginning with the detox house. I was a pain in the butt. I complained about the pillows being dirty (they were not!), I waited until a massage therapist was at the detox house and showed my butt (yes, massage therapist!), I was instructed to do chores (make my bed, dishes, ... I was a brat and tried to flirt my way out of them), and they shopped for food every day. The licensed staff would give us a form to fill out to get anything we wanted, but I refused food because I wanted attention. Just so you know, I was one of the easier ones. I do not envy any recovery house manager's job.
Moving forward, Solutions had the houses attend 12 step recovery meetings where we needed to take the steps, learn boundaries, and the staff helped in that endeavor. For example, 29 days after detox I was able to graduate to one of their beautiful sober-living houses. I got up willingly at 5 am, made friends, and went to aftercare, IOP and meetings willingly. I did my chores, ate, and did self-care including each program they offered. In fact, Dave Marlon wrote me a check for 1000 dollars because I did the entire program without relapsing. That is part of the package. THEY CARE!!! Like it or not, it is not about money, it is about saving lives and saving future generations from our crap.
Just so you know, thanks to Solutions as a whole - from Dr. Bradley's intervention to the Behavior Health Therapist Sharron M. asking me 'what have I done wrong today' to the best counselor in the entire world Jane S. who would ask me every time she saw me ... how many days sober, Linda? Little did I know that it accomplished two things. One, staying sober so that I could go to a meeting in the hopes that I could see her around the grounds and tell her that I had another day. Two, my cognitive abilities were challenged. Drugs and alcohol had destroyed my short-term memory. She helped me practice. Sneaky. :)
