| - A nice little golf club out by the literal corner of Mississauga.
It's easy to miss the hidden driveway that takes you into Lakeview Golf Course, set right along the border of the city (Long Branch GO Station is just a 10 minute walk away) and adjacent to the Toronto Golf Club, which easily dwarfs this site. Yet, Lakeview Golf retains its own unique charm despite a smaller size.
It's easy to be a bit put off when you walk in and see people putting right beside the driveway, but stick with it and you'll find a wealth of green space to tee off in. When I visited, I saw loyal golfers braving heavy rain to get their shots in.
I've been to a number of golf clubs across the city, but this time I wasn't at one for pleasure - it was strictly business. I came here for a press conference announcing the opening of the sale process for the Lakeview lands, and was impressed by how they had converted the clubhouse into a stage for Minister of Finance Charles Sousa and other speakers to talk about the project.
The clubhouse itself is a lot smaller than others I've been to, but what it lacks in size it makes up with in friendly staff and a warm, cozy demeanor. Signed prints of golf clubs across the country line the walls, while the nearby proshop offers a number of goods including Titleist-branded balls and caps, performance outerwear, clubs and more.
It's a really charming little place, and functions just as well as an impromptu meeting site as it does a golf course. The cheap rates and loyal clientele has also ensured that this club will be around for many years to come. Worth a look.
