| - This place is great. As soon as my party walked in, we all got excited over the music, which was Michael Jackson. The hostess happily informed us that it was "Sunday Funday" and she was in charge of the music for the evening. She went on to say that she would do our best not to leave us disappointed. And I assure you, we weren't. The music got better from there. If you are reading this and you are management at Crush, PLEASE PROMOTE THIS GIRL FROM HOSTESS TO DJ!!! She was the most adorable little black girl with a crop cut. She was so friendly and I made sure to tell her how great her music selection was as we left.
We had a reservation for 530, after a show. It was admittedly early and we were the first patrons of the evening. Unfortunately, however, despite our reservation, we were seated next to the kitchen. In an empty restaurant, the noise from the kitchen can be pretty obvious. Too bad, but luckily disappointing bit of the evening was overcompensated by lovely service and incredible food.
Our server was fantastic, friendly and always prompt. We didn't wait one second for our glasses to be filled, even as the evening wore on. She caught every fallen napkin and folded it, with grace, and placed each on the back of the chair until the guest came back from the washroom, a nice touch. She was easy to smile and give reccomendations.
We started with oysters, beef carpaccio and scallops. The oysters were served with a shallot red wine topping and freshly shaved horseradish. They were fresh and well-picked (not fishy at all). The beef carpaccio was the best part of the evening. It was literally melt in your mouth good. The scallops were a bit salty for my taste, and the fried pork-belly they were served with, though tender, made the dish overly spicy. They were served with a sauce that was remarkably like hellman's mayonnaise that was, i guess, supposed to offset the saltiness, but just made the dish cloying. Least favorite dish, for sure.
For my entree I had Trout served on shaved zucchini and yellow beets with an INCREDIBLY good lemon hollandaise. This dish was perfect and I would've literally licked the plate, if it wouldn't have been unseemly. One thing I will say though is that the dishes are very small. One of my party had the lamb and she finished it in about 5 minutes. It was just odd because shen you order lamb I guess you expect something big. Or maybe we were just being greedy because everything was so good.
For dessert I had a glass of port (wonderful) and the deep fried pumpkin pie cheesecake. This was perfect. Not too sweet. Just great. One of the party didn't want anything on the dessert menu, and was having a craving for plain vanilla icecream. The server didn't blink an eye and had it out for her with our other desserts, no complaint. Again, she was wonderful.
All in all, great food, PERFECT service, I would definitely go back.
