Masa is an oasis in a vast sea of mediocre sushi. Though not the best sushi I've ever eaten (and I've eaten sushi in many states), I can definitely say that the sushi at Masa is made with care and respect for the ingredients.
The rice is cooked well and seasoned perfectly. The fish is selected carefully and sliced neatly. And the sushi is crafted by chefs who understand their craft and who work to create culinary art. The portions are on the small side, but the prices reflect this.
The non-sushi portion of the menu is acceptable. The tempura appetizer was a huge portion of shrimp and vegetables. The batter was a bit on the heavy side, but the dish was fine. The Chinese dishes were good but standard fare.
Service was a bit rushed but again- this restaurant makes no pretenses to being a high end dining experience.
Overall- if you are looking for good sushi, Masa is a good choice!
