This is one of my go-to restaurants for visitors wanting to take me to lunch or dinner. The prices are very reasonable for ridiculously large portions. Darn, once again I forgot to take photos of the wonderful food we enjoyed last night. Almost any meal I've ever had here can be shared by two.
A nice warm crusty loaf of bread is brought to the table to start. For my entree I tried something new last night, Indochine Shrimp & Chicken ($19) & it was 5 star. The flavor was out of this world: onions, ginger, cranberries, sun-dried cherries in a plum wine cream curry sauce served with rice. I ate a lot but I didn't even get through half of it. My friend had Parmesan Chicken (under $20) & he agreed with what I told him I had thought in the past: best he's ever had. He also had more than half left-over.
While eating we saw a monster strawberry shortcake dessert get carried past us & my friend had to try that-delicious. I had the waiter bring me an eclair from the bakery attached to the restaurant. Again, leftovers.
Though I gave GLC 5 stars, if 4 1/2 were an option I'd have demoted it. Or if I have the same problem with the waitstaff again I'll give it 4 stars: The wait for the entree & then the dessert was very long. Our water glasses were never refreshed. I wasn't asked if I wanted white or brown rice with my dish. There's another reason I might demote GLC in the future: it's quite noisy & tables are crowded pretty closely together. Upon my insistence we were lucky enough to be seated at one of the only booths in the place.
I still highly recommend Grand Lux Cafe to locals & visitors wanting a reasonably priced great meal & varied menu.
