| - Back in the day, I would remember when "TI" used to really be Treasure Island, complete with a pretty cool pirate show (with ahem, manly pirates) and an huge video game and carnival area (now Kahunaville). It was actually a pretty happening hotel at the time. Now, it's a budget hotel with a great location.
Let's face it, the only reason to stay at TI nowadays is for the lower rate and the location. The Wynn/Encore and Palazzo/Venetian properties across the street is the main draw here. Although it's right across the street, it's still a 5-10 minute walk to cross over the bridges. If shopping is your thing, the Fashion Mall is right next door.
Although it was a weekday, it's hard to beat $50 a night for a decent room. BUT, and it's a huge BUT... as with a lot of other properties, they charge a $22 resort fee. It includes the usual stuff like Wi-Fi, gym, newspaper, etc etc. Unless you're cooped up inside the hotel room on business, you won't get your money's worth. I tried to ask nicely to waive the fee upon check-in, but they are dead set.
So if you add it all up, an fabulous deal at $50/night has morphed into an "okay" deal at around $75/night. I signed up for their mailing list, and seem to be very active promotions--they have plenty of 2 for 1 deals for drinks, their buffet, and some other stuff. They even throw in a voucher for $20 off a future stay.
As for the room, it was good enough for 3-4 hours of sleep. It didn't smell, there were no stains anywhere, and it was clean. I even had a partial view of the Strip, which was a nice surprise. My only gripe was the bathroom. The drain for the shower was extremely slow in draining water (who wants to stand in a pool of their own dirty water?). To top it off, the sink was plugged up too. Good thing the toilet wasn't plugged up. After any buffet experience, that would've been pretty bad.
