  • FLOAT TANK EXPERIENCE First - BOOKING THE APPOINTMENT --- I've known or at least heard about the float tank (or what used to be called the sensory deprivation tank) for many years. Probably first heard about it from a Joe Rogan YouTube video, but not having a clue where to find one it slipped back into the recess of my mind. More recently I heard about it from a Tim Ferris podcast and was called to track down a location. After a quick internet search I discovered BUOYANCY was 30 minutes away, but easily the closest to Charlotte where I live. I not only easily found their website, but also easily booked the appointment. I received a nice follow up email as confirmation and started getting excited. Second - ARRIVING --- I arrived and was greeted by Bert, the customer service rep who was welcoming and invited me to complete my new member paperwork and then invited me to walk into the float tank room where he proceeded to orient me to the room and experience I was about to have. The room/facility was really impressive. They have a complete setup that is inviting and a process of orientating a new floater in a wonderful way. Third - THE FLOAT --- I took a quick shower in the fully private and spa like room that held the float tank, shower, chairs, spa robe, towels, etc. After the quick shower, I put the ear plugs in and climbed into the tank to start my float. And doing so was a bit scary as it was going to be the first time I was going to be deprived of light, sound, gravity and my senses for perhaps the first time in my life. The water held over 1000lbs of medical grade Epson salt dissolved into the 10 inches of water. Later, as I finally relaxed and let go, I had a feeling like what I perceived an astronaut in space or baby in the womb feels like...completely free! The water temperature being body temperature feels warm at first, but the distinction between the water and my skin completely disappeared over time. During the first few minutes the tank had quiet relaxing music which helped orient me to the darkness. It was stark, but also beautifully peaceful. As the music faded out, I became aware of all the tension that I hold, particularly in my neck. And I just continued to breathe and relax. Breathe and let go. It took 30 minutes or so to finally have the tension leave my body and then the journey in the tank began at a new layer. While I didn't lose myself entirely, I noticed just as the light music came back into the tank that I was more relaxed than I can ever remember being. I was well aware that something inside of me had shifted. Above and beyond my stress...this had been powerful. Fourth - CUSTOMER SERVICE --- I was greeted by Bert and Cecil the owner upon exiting and they were thrilled that I had such a great experience. Knowing that this one session was just scratching the surface I immediately signed up for a membership which allows unlimited floats each month for $100. Given that one float is $75, this was a no brainer. I then proceeded to get a full tour of the facility and services, some of which they throw in on top of the float tank each month for free. The educational approach of the tour was extremely helpful and truly a 5 star customer service experience. Fifth - THE RESULTS --- This has been the greatest self-care experience I have ever used. After hundreds of massages, a dozen acupuncture treatments, a handful of reiki sessions, and a few others, I can definitively say that this experience had the biggest impact. Without a doubt this moved me physically, mentally, emotionally, and yes even spiritually into a new space. For the 8 hours that have followed this treatment I have been relaxed and at peace at a whole new level. I have had a sense of euphoria...a grounded and positive outlook ever since I left the tank. I have never ever written a review like this and I have no connection whatsoever to this business or owner. If you want a spa like and beyond transformational experience and live near Charlotte, BUOYANCY and the FLOAT TANK are a must! Enjoy every second!
