| - Race City is currently the only road course in Alberta and they also have an oval circuit and drag strip. For road racers in Alberta, this is the place to be since the next closest courses are in Mission B.C. and Gimli, MB. I've raced on the road course and driven on the oval for a race school. I haven't been to a drag event, but since the drag strip is integrated into the road course, I've driven most of the strip. The road course is very fun and in decent shape.
I was at a race school in early 2011 at the track and the pavement was falling apart rapidly, but they have spent money fixing all those areas and when I was back for a race a few weeks later, the track was all fixed.
Unfortunately, the track is right beside a city dump and the city has been trying to shut down the track and turn it into a dump for several years. While it has been saved several times, many people think that 2011 will be its last season, since the lease is up at the end of the year. Since its future has been unclear for the past few years, there hasn't been a lot of maintenance done to the facilities and it shows. The wooden stands are showing their age and I believe there once were bathrooms, but they now just have portapotties.
This is a very awesome venue and I'll love for it to be saved and hopefully it will be. If it does stick around, maybe the owners will put a bit of money into maintaining it.
