Soyo is a "barstraunt" and has that exact feeling with the decor inside the venue, along with a matching outdoor patio. The decorations remind me of the eighties in Korea, with an adorable retro television against the back wall. There are a lot of old books and comics which sprinkle a nice casual vibe.
The whole venue is quite spacious. It has individual tables that are separated by metal awnings and walls which is a really attractive aesthetic but also offers a great amount of privacy if seated within the booths. The other tables that are situated in the center of the restaurant offer space but it can get loud in the area since it is intimate.

I brought my parents to Soyo on this visit and we ordered three different dishes.
I had ordered the chadol bakhe buchu muchim, which is basically marinated thin slices rib eye with a side of chive salad. The salad was fresh and the dressing had a sort of sweet and sour flavor, which was delicious. However the salad lacked its namesake, buchu or chives. I had to dig around the salad to find the source of the sparse chives. Other than that, there was decent amount of meat and it was all cooked well.
My mother ordered the soondae guk, or the blood sausage soup. This turned out to be a huge disappointment. Initially, we were surprised to see this as a new menu item and were hoping that the taste would be suitable. However the broth had a strong pork taste which means they did not soak the raw meat and let the blood drain. What seemed to be the worst was there were only four pieces of soondae and cost 12 dollars in total which I find ridiculous because at many locations they will give at least half and sometimes the whole sausage.
Lastly, my father ordered the kamja tang, which is a stew with potatoes (kamja) and pork neck bone. This dish took forever to arrive, and the other two meals were brought way before this one. I typically like when all the dishes are brought out together, but that's simply preference. The fire was put on low when it arrived at our table, barely keeping the heat for the stew. There was a strong pork taste with this dish as well, but it was more subtle than the soondae guk.
SERVICE: 4/5
The server assigned to our table was attentive and very friendly, always refilling side dishes and checking up on us. We were able to get a water jug before it was emptied and were given napkins when requested.
However, the other server seemed standoffish at first before he realized my mother and I were Korean speakers. That is a sort of disappointing action when I encounter that. Otherwise, he grew to be friendly and serve our table during our visit.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE: 3/5
I have been to Soyo plenty times in the past due to the closeness to my residence. I have watched management change many times, menus flip with different items, along with renovation within the restaurant itself. The reason I have not recently frequented this restaurant was due to a previous experience where I was given a horrible amount of attitude from a server.
For today's visit, I would say the positives and negatives are about equal. I will attempt to give this restaurant another try just to be fair.
