| - We have been wanting to check out One Barrel since we saw it the first week we moved to Madison. We finally stopped in after work on a Wednesday for a drink and some food. The interior is cool, they have a fun fundraiser where you throw dollar bills onto the ceiling, reminds me of a college bar I frequented once upon a time.
The server was very nice, appropriately attentive, etc. I was a little disappointed by the menu just because they didn't have any wheat beers which I prefer to drink or anything else that looked interesting to me. The hubs had a brown ale which was okay, but not a fave. We also ordered the meat and cheese plate and a soft pretzel to nom on. I noticed right away that they didn't have a kitchen so I didn't want to chance a pizza that they also offer. The pretzel was good, I don't know where they get it from though. The meat and cheese plate was...interesting. I've never gotten one quite like it before. Nothing on it was cut, so it was a hunk of cheese and three half links of cured meat. They gave us a knife, obviously, but it was just a little strange to me that there was essentially zero finesse. But nothing tasted bad.
Overall it wasn't bad, but we honestly won't be back, there isn't any draw for us.
